Taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick

An old rhyme about learning. From a book discussion forum.
School days, school days,
Good old Golden Rule days,
Reading and Riting and Rithmetic,
Taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick

Apparently it is part of a 1907 song written by Will Cobb and Gus Edwards.
School days, school days,
Good old Golden Rule days,
Reading and Riting and Rithmetic,
Taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick

You were my queen in calico.
I was your bashful, barefoot beau.
And you wrote on my slate, "I love you, Joe!"
When we were a couple of kids.
Sounds like a scene from Tom Sawyer with Becky Thatcher.
